Finding a creative niche

Most people I meet have a creative pulse that leads them to admire and try new ideas.  Even if you don't consider yourself an artistic person, you probably still appreciate creativity when you see it.  I think this is why Pinterest has taken such a thrust forward even beyond (dare I say it?) Facebook.  I have noticed that people who once spent eons of wasted minutes just floating through FB now prefer the motivating possibilities of Pinterest to do something.  Just get off your duff and do something!  At least that's what goes through my head when I get lost in funneling through pins, lol.

I believe God has given each of us a leaning toward creativity, afterall, we are made in His image and He is the greatest creative genius of all!  So if you haven't been cultivating some kind of artform throughout your life, where do you begin?  First, don't be overwhelmed by the idea that you "aren't creative" or "have no artistic bone in your body."  This is just not true.  The very fact that you actively use your brain to think about new ways of doing something at work or you have passion in your heart for a certain cause stems from the creative nature God instilled in you from the get go.  You may have to re-define creativity in your own mind.  The visual and musical arts are amazing gifts but they are not the limit of all things creative.  In fact, I have experienced crazy good food that was inspired from a passion I don't get but I can still value it (as do my tastebuds!).  Planting gorgeous perrenials is an artform, believe me, my green thumbs continue to fail me every spring no matter how hard I try, but I keep trying!  And that's my suggestion to you... just try something.

One of our most self-defeating traits is thinking nothing is worth the risk of failing.  Stepping out of your comfort zone and starting something new is not failing, it is called growing.  Even if the outcome isn't what you expected the first few times, keep trying.  I can't count how many projects I have started and never finished because I just wasn't getting the results I had hoped for.  So I roll my eyes at my newest bomb and try again or I move on to try something else.

As a result of my numerous creative efforts, I now design personalized jewelry and have gotten pretty good at it.  But how I got to this point was a loooong journey that only God could get me through.  If you aren't sure where to start, look around and consider the things you admire and value, I bet God will shine a light on what He is already cultivating in you.
